Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his future following a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular discussions I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Response
Slot lamented familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period of this nature with performances so bad.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
