England to Start Euro 2028 Quest at the Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will initiate their UEFA Euro 2028 journey at the Etihad Stadium, assuming they attain the anticipated passage for a tournament hosted across most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.

City’s stadium has not welcomed an England men’s match since the spring of 2016, when Turkey were overcome 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to stage the national team for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.

The English side are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, if they top the preliminary round, their last-16 tie would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Placing second would mean commencing the knockouts at Everton’s ground.

Championship Opening and Rally

The tournament was launched at an gathering in central London on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the host football associations were confronted as they arrived the site by approximately 50 activists, who called for the Israeli team to be expelled from the sport because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were held up with phrases reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Fixture List

The opening game of the European Championship will be played at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a fixture that will include Wales if they secure a place.

The national stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be staged on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at 5:00 PM.

It is hoped that an earlier start, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will attract households and help reach a broader range of audiences.

Host Nations

The Republic of Ireland are due to play their opening match at the Aviva Stadium and Scotland would do the same at Hampden Park.

Each host nation’s squad will participate in the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be set aside for any that fail to qualify for the finals through that route.

Stadiums and Playoffs

The Birmingham venue and Spurs’ ground complete the nine host stadiums. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarter-finals staged at each country’s national stadium.

The qualification draw will be held in Belfast, which was dropped as a host city last year when it emerged Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on 6 December 2026.

Leadership Comment

“It will be a championship for the followers and a showcase of everything we love about the football – its emotion and capacity to foster unity.”

More than three million tickets, a unprecedented number for a Euro tournament, are expected to be made available to supporters.
