The acclaimed English actor Helen Mirren, previously winner of an Oscar, multiple Bafta awards, three Golden Globes, multiple Emmy accolades, plus a Tony, is set to add another esteemed prize to her trophy case: the Cecil B DeMille Golden Globe career honor.

Award Event

Mirren, octogenarian, who was honored as a dame during 2003 and honored as a BAFTA fellow in the year 2014, will accept the award during a presentation January 8, shortly before the primary Globes ceremony take place, as part of an event billed by the organization as the “Golden Eve”.

Additionally featuring the bestowal of the Globes’ Carol Burnett award for TV work, whose winner is still to be revealed. The prior year’s honorees featured Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Helen Mirren is an unstoppable talent, and her career is nothing short of extraordinary,” stated the organization’s president, Helen Hoehne. “Her brilliant portrayals and dedication to acting persistently influence generations of artists and viewers as well. We are deeply honored to bestow upon her the DeMille prize.”

Career Highlights

Helen Mirren rose to fame in the 1970s through significant parts in stage productions in London’s theater district and through the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as in movies such as O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.

In the 1990s, her starring role in the investigative show Prime Suspect increased her popularity significantly. Additional notable movies feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

She received an Oscar for her portrayal as Queen Elizabeth II in 2006 film The Queen, a part she returned to in 2013 for The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play about the meetings involving the monarch and the PM Margaret Thatcher, a performance for which she earned a Tony during 2015.

• In the coming year, audiences will see Mirren as Patricia Highsmith in the drama by Anton Corbijn, Switzerland.

Globes nominations are set to be revealed December 8, including Anderson’s One Battle After Another, the movie from Chloé Zhao Hamnet along with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners likely to receive multiple nominations.
