Shock as Popular South African DJ Killed in the City of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a nation grappling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the 40-year-old media personality was approached by a trio of assailants, one of whom began shooting at him before escaping on foot.
The motive behind the shooting has not been established and no arrests are in custody, police said.
How It Happened
Police said that Stock was ambushed as he was departing from a building in the vicinity of the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the property managing the setup of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, it was reported.
"The report indicates the victim was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before escaping on foot," a police statement stated.
Surveillance tape reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocks and clad in what appeared to be a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries across the street.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the attack.
Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were recovered from the scene.

Officials are asking eyewitnesses who may have have information to contact them.
"Evidence suggests they covered significant ground after the attack, and officers have been attempting to locate them to find their location," stated a police chief.
Outpouring of Grief
His sister, Nicole Stock, stated the family was struggling to understand the tragedy.
"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," she stated.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He was a fearless commentator about topics not many people were prepared to discuss. This is a devastating blow."
She urged the citizens to refrain from sharing disturbing footage from the scene, explaining this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's children.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that premiered on a popular local TV network.
Beyond his work in broadcasting, Stock was active in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including protective services, offering elite guarding services and securing major functions across South Africa.
He was also reportedly involved in real estate operations and was involved in tenant removals.

A senior figure said he was angry and saddened by Stock's killing.

A party figurehead commented the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a trauma for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director noted that "Stock was far beyond a TV personality. He was a gifted communicator, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a kind-hearted individual who brought excitement and dynamism to every moment on screen. His dedication to creativity left an lasting impression."
In a statement, the network he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his presence, warmth and quick humor, adding that his influence "will live on".
