The Gory Animated Film Conclusion That Haunts Audiences
Out of all the mature animated films I’ve ever watched, no other has stuck with me as much as the dread-soaked conclusion of the graphically gory and deeply subversive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, the Spain-based filmmaker developed a dark, bleak , frequently brutal universe that included a few small , forlorn glimmers of hope.
Although The Unicorn Wars seems like it originated from an impulse to push the medium even more, the director clarified that it was more an attempt to express a universal, multicultural theme regarding “the shared root of each battle.”
That message is expressed via a band of brightly hued teddy bears , openly modeled after a popular series of cuddly figures.
Maturing in a culture centered on warmongering as well as the military-industrial complex, a lot of these creatures are obsessed with killing the mythical beasts, thanks to a sacred text which states them they previously were masters of the forest, before the horned beings expelled them.

Simultaneously, the horned creatures are experiencing their own terror, in the form of an expanding, deadly beast in their woods.
“At the beginning, it seems like a humorous movie,” the filmmaker commented. “However it turns into a more serious and sorrowful movie. And by the end, it transforms into a horror film.”
The Unicorn Wars begins feeling a bit like one of the more quirky movies by a legendary animator, that uncover a wicked pleasure in permitting animated figures swear, shoot each other, or sex each other up.
Subsequently it becomes closer to a more grim film by that same artist, including ever more explicit brutality and a noticeable connection to genuine horror of conflict.
In the finale, it’s a complete extreme drama massacre.
The fear which makes the film a perfect Halloween watch begins well before than one might expect.
