The Showrunner Discloses He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will End... For Now.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the popular series reaching its finale—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Fan Response

It would be easy to get distracted by the rampant praise and fan theories regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to avoid both.

“It's like being constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's by design. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Has the creator Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team are not listening by audience theories, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… sort of.

“We have some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to discard a decent plan for a better idea. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, why not reference the classics?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
