Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Showdown Versus defending champion Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their maiden World Series since 1993 by beating the Mariners in the final Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Behind by two runs, Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh inning, guiding the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a four games to three win in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the upcoming championship.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, our city, Canada," said Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "What an amazing experience."
George Springer has now connected for 23 total October home runs, ranking him third all-time behind Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another person in the world that I want up in that moment except for Springer with his playoff prowess," said manager John Schneider.
Seattle, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the one club that has never reached in a Fall Classic.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" after his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but applauded their work in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we ended up on the losing end of this game," he remarked.
Toronto claimed the title on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
